Chairman’s message

I am honoured and delighted to take on the role of Chair of the Association, a role that is both exciting and full of challenges. Francis Butler employed great skill, sensitivity and determination, working with the management board, to bring stability to the association and to develop it to its current position of strength.

The ABP is now in a position to develop its role for members and for the way psychology is used and perceived in business. We have the ability to enhance what we are offer each other and we are ready and able to demonstrate the significance and value psychology adds to the advice and services organisations receive from us.

I am very upbeat following the unanimous endorsement of my nomination for this role and Francis’ encouragement for me to accept the nomination. However, the role is not a passive one and there is a lot of work to be done.

The management board is looking to the future of psychology in business; how we can enhance its impact and how we can raise awareness among those who can benefit most from it. This vision is taking shape and will be shared and developed further at our conference in May 2010.  As an association, we have the future of our profession in our own hands and it is up to us what we do with it. I believe there is a lot that we can and should do.

I look forward to working with all my colleagues in the ABP who want to take advantage of this opportunity to develop our profession. We can and, I believe, should be a significant and worthwhile force for sustainable performance both for organisations and for people at work.

I hope to meet and discuss our future with many of you at our conference in May.  If you are unable to get to the conference this year, be assured that the board will be making every effort to communicate our thinking and to collect your thoughts before making decisions about actions in which to invest our efforts.
