Description:
Changing Management Thinking
John Seddon is an occupational psychologist credited with translating the principles behind the Toyota Production System (TPS) for service organisations. Just as Taiichi Ohno (the man who developed the TPS) discovered some counter-intuitive truths in the way we design and manage manufacturing organisations, the same is true for the management of service organisations. These counter-intuitive truths represent a fundamental challenge to management’s beliefs. And that’s where the problems start, for how easy is it to accept that the way we think about management has serious flaws?
John will illustrate many of the counter-intuitive truths with compelling case examples and will talk about the methods he has developed to help managers ‘un-learn’ then learn – changing their views about management’s purpose and methods.
Managers employing John’s ideas achieve improvements beyond what they previously considered possible. The secret, according to John, is not so much what you change, but how you go about it. Prepare to be disturbed, challenged and inspired.
