Dysfunction versus Resilience: an exploration of the opposing organisational reactions to Recession

Posted: 05/12/08

Date and time:

Tuesday 16th December 6.00 pm

Venue:

London Metropolitan University, The New Board Room, Tower Building,  North Campus, 166 – 220 Holloway Rd.,  London     N7 8DB

Description:

Anton Fishman takes a very practical approach to Business Psychology.  He has a solid track record in applying successfully theoretical techniques to the work placement environment and ultimately to the performance of organisations and people in often difficult and testing environments.

We must all be aware of the impact these recessionary times are already having on organisations and their people, individually and collectively.  How they respond to these pressures will to a great extent determine how well organisations come through the next two or three years, if they survive at all. Some organisations are already buckling under the pressures, with dysfunctional ‘dark-side’ behaviours emerging rapidly. Others are rising to the challenges demonstrating the capabilities required to tough things out the next few years. Most organisations however are hovering between one and the other, latent dysfunctional behaviour emerging but not yet dominant, resilience hoped for but not strongly evident.

Business Psychologists ought to be ideally placed to work with organisations on these issues - but are we? We can probably all agree on the dysfunctional but do we know what characterises a resilient organisation? How can we use our distinctive insights in these matters to help organisations under pressure? How do we sell into a recession, when the propensity to buy becomes inversely proportional to the need for our services?

If you are working hard to get your head around these issues and are prepared to share your thinking with others, then please do join Anton for a round table review of these issues on Tuesday 16th December.

It is expected that the presentation will last 45 minutes followed by approximately 40 minutes of Q&A.
