Description:
Just how could the use of psychology in executive coaching prevent leadership derailment?
Vicky Ellam-Dyson is based at the Coaching Psychology Unit at City University in London and sits on the executive board of the BPS Special Group in Coaching Psychology. She is involved in researching the usefulness of Rational Emotive Behaviour Theory in coaching for improving leadership effectiveness. Many years of leadership research have uncovered reasons for derailment (avoiding decision making, poor interpersonal skills, and resistance to change), but despite repeated findings derailment figures remain high. How could this be addressed using psychological techniques with leaders, taking advantage of the increasingly popular use of executive coaching, and avoiding the stigma of corporate therapy?
