Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question for us that the previous pages haven’t covered yet? See the following list of Frequently Asked Questions to assist you with attending our Annual Conference.

What makes the ABP conference standout from other events?

It is the only conference dedicated primarily to the practical application of psychology in organisations. The theme for this year’s event is ‘The Dark Side’ and will bring to life the future of work.
Therefore it is orientated towards academics and business leaders sharing insights on how technology and change will affect the workforce.

It focuses on areas of specific interest to practitioners dealing with technology, change, talent, leadership, coaching, selection & assessment, organisational development and psychometrics to name a few.

Who should attend this event?

Given that this year’s event will focus on the future of work, this event aims to engage business psychology practitioners who are interested in learning about the emerging future of the workplace. Moreover, this event will aim to attract corporate attendees who can takeaway business focused insights to drive sustainable commercial success.

You don’t have to be an ABP member to attend this event. Our events tend to be inclusive by nature and are attendee profile usually consists of the following:

1. Independent Business Psychologists

2. (External) Consultants

3. In-house Consultants

4. HR professionals

5. Academics

6. Students

7. Line Managers with an interest in business psychology

What are the main reasons why people attend the conference?

Most people attend the conference for gaining relevant and up-to-date information in the business psychology space that can be applied successfully in their own working environment. The event also provides individuals with excellent opportunities for networking with industry leaders and peers via regular breaks, lunches and gala dinners, as well as other organised opportunities.

I’m not a member of the ABP, is that a problem?

Not at all.  You are welcome to pay our non member rates.  If however you want to become a member (welcome) then this step needs to be conducted BEFORE you attempt to buy tickets.  We read and approve of every application and this does take a couple of days.  Once your membership is approved, you will be given log in details which you will need in order to benefit from our member rates.

What are the options if I can't attend the conference on both days?

While we would recommend people attend the full two days for maximum benefit, we also recognise that sometimes competing schedules and limited budgets may mean that some are unable to attend in this way.

We have therefore created a number of flexible delegate packages to ensure we can accommodate all our members and those who wish to attend in the wider business psychology community. Please see the Registration page for more information.

What are the benefits of attending as a residential delegate?

s a day delegate you are are entitled to attend all conference sessions. However, many of the new ideas and concepts are discussed outside the sessions and many opportunities for collaboration are forged throughout the conference, making it worthwhile being residential, even if you live locally. The vast majority of attendees are residential delegates.

How do costs of this event compare with other conferences?

No other conference offers such value, because the ABP is run virtually by members for members. Everyone working for the ABP is a volunteer so costs for salaries and offices are saved resulting in the value you see.

Many one day conferences in this field cost over £1000.  This is a two day conference, and features benefits (such as completing and getting feedback on Hogan) which alone are worth over £100.  In addition, many of the workshops would cost over £250 if booked publically.  Many conferences offer rows and rows of seating as this maximises numbers in a room – we purposefully limit our conference to 200 delegates split across four streams with delegates sat at round tables.  We value high quality, evidence based content and interactive formats which ensure you get learning from the event.  We are psychologists – we know how to run an engaging event (but not a very commerical one)!

What meals are included with my conference ticket?

This will depend on the package you choose. Day delegates will be provided with teas, coffees and refreshments during the day, as well as lunch.

Full conference delegate registration will also include the cost of attending the Gala Dinner (included in the full price conference ticket).

I am attending the conference for the first time on my own...what is the ABP conference community like?

The spirit of the ABP conference is and always has been very inclusive, it is often said that it is friendlier and more welcoming than most other conferences.

Over the years, the Annual ABP Conference has pioneered a new level of delegate involvement and commitment through a balance of content and networking, which enables delegates to add their own value and contribution to the conference. It has achieved this through intensity of activity and through the variety and choices of sessions on offer. In addition, the opportunity to network has always been a big draw for many of those attending, so the opportunity to strike up conversations with people you’ve never met before is also very strong.

Are employer organisations represented at the conference?

There is always a good balance between independent practitioners and those employed in larger organisations. In addition, we always have a wide range of speakers and sponsors who attend every year, which represent a diverse mix of sectors and industries.

I have special dietary requirements. What should I do?

No problem, you will be asked to provide information on your dietary requirements when you book your ticket. If you’d like to make extra specially sure, then drop us a quick email at

What is the dress code?

We recommend wearing casual business attire for the conference and workshops.

If you are attending the glamorous Thursday Night Gala Dinner the dress code is black tie/evening dress so please bring a suitable change of clothes.
