Applying the Big 5 and Emotional Intelligence to Improving Workplace Cultures
Speaker: Dan Hill, President, Sensory Logic Inc., Minnesota US
There continues to be much discussion on the Big Five and their link to Emotional Intelligence. Interest has recently gained new traction as a result of an international focus on leadership and its influence on team effectiveness and mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.
Through his work in research with the world’s leading commercial organisations, Dan Hill is well placed to discuss the role of EI in change management through a productive workplace culture and how this relates to best practice in the development of leadership styles. This will be a practical case study filled presentation which will bring to life the issue of the importance of culture and what can be done to achieve improved leader engagement to enhance the effectiveness and performance of organisations.
Based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Dan Hill, PhD, hosts “Dan Hill’s EQ Spotlight” on the New Books Network (NBN). NBN is the world’s largest book podcast, with an international audience that downloads 1.2 million episodes monthly. Dan releases a new episode and blog in his series “Faces of the Week” every Thursday. Dan is an internationally recognised expert on emotions and the president of Sensory Logic, Inc., which has done market research work for over 50% of the world’s top 100 B2C companies. As a means of capturing and quantifying emotions, Dan pioneered the use of facial coding in business in 1998, is a certified practitioner of the Facial Action Coding System (FACS), and the recipient of 7 U.S. patents related to the analysis of facial coding data. With the automation of facial coding, the tool has become a key component of what The Economist has described as the emerging “facial-industrial” complex.
Dan has authored three books recently including “Two Cheers for Democracy”: How Emotions Drive Leadership Style is especially applicable to executive development, including in relation to effective change management and creating an inclusive, productive workplace culture. Dan has appeared on the air or in print in the following media outlets: CNN, Bloomberg TV, CNBC, Al Jazeera, ESPN, The New York Times, China Forbes, Fast Company, The Financial Times, Politico, Time, The Wall Street Journal and China Forbes. In 2016, he was a columnist for Reuters on that year’s U.S. presidential race.
