The Challenge of Ensuring the Research Agenda makes the Difference

Session outline

Most of us may know that Roffey Park Institute started as the organisation which transformed lives after the end of the Second World War when pioneering work was undertaken to address individual needs through dialogue, enhancing individual and team performance.    Moving forward 75 years, the ethos remains the same but the means of delivery and structure of the Institute has changed beyond recognition, as has the client focus.   Rapidly changing markets are creating unprecedented change and strains on organisations which present a variety of huge leadership challenges.  Such diverse work, however, provides opportunity for new research, spotlighting new angles on old problems and old angles on new problems, often throwing up the unexpected.

Utilising data gathered from projects, the Institute has produced some fascinating results in a couple of recent reports which will be shared with members at this session.  These are fed back into research and training programmes with the focus on a constant drive to make a difference in organisations.  The sheer variety of work and projects undertaken by the Institute and Robert’s passion for this area of work will make this a fascinating presentation not to be missed.

We are indeed delighted to be able to welcome Dr. Robert Coles who joined the Institute in 2018 after a distinguished career in the training and executive education sector.  Dr Robert Coles has been deeply involved with human development over many years, most recently as the Co-Founder and Chair of The Centre for Alternative Leadership & Management -Place of CALM™, an academic research collaboration, think tank and consultancy. Prior to this, Robert has worked on the development of senior leadership teams in blue chip organisations, held directorships of three Executive Education practices, and developed his ideas and practices around Collaborative Competence™.  A graduate of the Universities of Oxford and Leicester, with a Ph.D. in Collaborative and Confucian Leadership, and post-graduate degrees in Cross-Cultural HRD , and Organisational Leadership, his continuing research interest is in collaborative mechanisms for promoting interdependent leadership and management, utilising AI tools. Robert has an ongoing interest in the activities of the ABP.

We should like to thank the University of Westminster for once again hosting this event.

We look forward to welcoming you.
