How can Business Psychologists use technology to make a more effective contribution?
We are very privileged to be able to welcome Peter Cheese who will lead a discussion on the relationship between Business Psychology and HR. HR is about sourcing, developing and utilising the people resource in an organisation to best outcome, and understanding and developing cultures that align behaviours. It enables collaboration and innovation, and brings together people with diverse interests, skills and profiles.
Business psychologists working either directly in HR roles or alongside HR professionals can add a lot of value by bringing some of the science to the art of HR, and understanding of human and organisational behaviour. But increasingly there are challenges of connection and understanding leading to uncertain outcomes, and given the unpredictability of business environment, behaviour and human risk across organisations, how business psychologists work together with HR has never been more important. And this importance grows with increasing power of technology and its use of data and analytics, spotlighted by rapidly changing work patterns during lockdown.
Our respective professions have a duty to help leaders instil a culture of trust, respect, and fairness in their organisations, and help to deploy emerging innovations according to the strongest ethical and legal parameters. If this can be done effectively (and that is not a small “if”), there is a real opportunity to make work significantly better. But the pitfalls are enormous and collaboration is vital.
This session will explore some of the opportunities and challenges and how HR and Business Psychologists can partner and collaborate more effectively for the future.
Peter Cheese joined the CIPD as chief executive in July 2012 and is leading a significant change agenda for the CIPD and for the future of the HR and Learning professions.
He had a long career at Accenture holding various leadership positions and culminating in a seven year spell as Global Managing Director leading the firm’s human capital and organisation consulting and services practice.
After leaving Accenture in 2009 and before joining the CIPD, Peter became Chairman of the Institute of Leadership and Management, was an Executive Fellow at London Business School, and continued with some consulting as well as teaching and writing.
Peter is a member of the Advisory Board of the Open University Business School, a member of the Board at BPP University, and a member of the Council of City &Guilds. He has authored numerous articles, speaks on many platforms, and has authored a book on globalisation and the trends in organisations and people management called ‘The Talent-Powered Organisation’.
