How is Artificial Intelligence rapidly changing the Future of Work?
Whether it’s to do with recruitment or managing employees, most people approach the subject of Artificial Intelligence with considerable fear and trepidation. The present social climate is that of increasing uncertainty surrounding jobs and employment. There is also a perception that AI could remove the ‘human-ness’ out of the workplace and increase bias.
Those working in AI however often have a clear vision of the tremendous opportunities it provides for increasing employee engagement and bringing in cost efficiencies while providing intelligent insights to organisations due to analytics.
The gap between the two viewpoints often happens due to a lack of knowledge and understanding around Artificial Intelligence. The approach taken by most employers exacerbates the problem as there is very little attempt to proactively address the issue.
We need a mindset change: use of AI is not just about minimising costs or eliminating jobs but worrying about the kind of society we are creating.
While elements of work are rapidly changing, there are patterns to it and this needs to be more widely understood and communicated: as Business Psychologists we need to be better informed than our clients and be part of the process.
This session will review the current impact of AI on the future of work and how we can be better informed about them.
Devyani Vaishampayan is the Managing Partner of the HR TECH Partnership. She is also an experienced Chief Human Resource Officer in large blue-chip international organisations such as Rolls Royce, Lucent Technologies and Citigroup. This puts her at the forefront of HR innovation with a deep understanding of its application in big enterprise solutions.
Devyani has been named in the 2017 Financial Times/ Empower Ethnic Minority Leaders List and in the 2016 FTSE 100 ‘Women to Watch’ list. She is a Non-Executive Director at The British Quality Foundation and earlier at The HR Fund, The Singapore Association of the Deaf and BoardAgender.”
