Speaker: Phil Willcox, Founder, Emotion at Work
Date: Wednesday November 10th 2020
Time: 6.00 pm
Emotionally toxic cultures are bad for individuals, organisations and teams and yet they still occur. It can start with clashes of personality but then develop through emotional confrontation, loss of face to face interaction to an email or messageculture, and eventually into downright hostility. Tackling a culture like this requires deliberate and purposeful steps to confront the emotional reality in and for individuals, teams and organisations as a whole. .
Phil founded Emotion at Work (EaW) as he wanted to addresses these issues at source by both enriching lives and reducing the harm that emotions can do in the workplace. There is no magic bullet and emotions will never be eliminated and developing a strategy to enable and harness the constructive power of emotion is the ultimate prize. Three strategies used by EaW to frame a lot of their work with clients are; be heard, safe spaces and move on.
Phil Willcox will discuss these and other strategies and, using examples from his vast experience, will consider Good Practice in the management of emotions and the creation of a safe environment.
Emotion at Work was created by Phil Willcox to act as a resource for those wanting to address these organisational issues. It offers a library of curate resources, active discussions, peer networking and regular updates. Alongside a busy speaking and lecturing schedule, Phil is also a lecturer on the MSc in Communication, Credibility and Behaviour Analysis awarded by Manchester Metropolitan University.
