We are delighted to be able to welcome the winners of the Chair’s award from the October 2020 ABP conference.

 

During this session NWG will share how they are supporting colleagues’ wellbeing and transition to more blended ways of working as the pandemic unfolds. They will discuss the role business psychology and behavioural science is playing, as well as priorities for 2021 and for the longer-term.

They’ll talk about how the pandemic led them to pivot on some of their planned work to develop leadership capabilities and create a learning organisation for all, adapting to better support managers with the new responsibilities they were now facing and teams to come together in very different ways. Many colleagues are now working in a way that they’ve never had to before; either continuing to serve frontline customers under very different circumstances or with whole teams and departments suddenly working 100% remotely. As a result, supporting wellbeing, enabling connection and a sense of cohesion has never been more important.

Specifically they’ll cover:

  • The importance of an evidence based approach  – for example drawing parallels from ‘third quarter phenomenon’ literature to our current situation and exploring what inferences can and can’t be made from the existing literature on remote working to the current situation.
  • The key actions the organisation took to respond to colleague and customer needs and what we have learnt from that, particularly in terms of it being a catalyst for change in terms of being a purpose-led, learning organisation.

They’ll also share how they are working to hold on to these lessons, recognising all the great ways in which we’ve worked and about how we are starting to embed these  in future ways of working too, ensuring we have the right capabilities, process and environment to make this happen.

 

Biography

Anna Koczwara

Anna is a highly experienced chartered occupational psychologist, who has worked in academia, external and in-house consultancy for both public and private sector organisations, where she has successfully led numerous high-profile and high impact initiatives and strategic workstreams. Anna holds a PhD from Goldsmiths, University of London, in “Identifying Potential: Leadership and Diversity in Investment Banking”. At NatWest Group, Anna heads up the Behavioural Science team.

 

Hannah McQuoid-Mason

Hannah is a psychologist who has worked within financial services for over 15 years, including a period at the London Stock Exchange in both business facing and HR/strategic roles. At NatWest group she is responsible for a range of customer related behavioural science programmes, and is the team lead for culture transformation

 

NWG Behavioural Science Team

The NWG Behavioural Science team is responsible for Assessment – for all people decision-making; Capability frameworks and future strategy – including behaviours and skills and mindsets; and Behavioural Science – providing thought leadership and consultancy across the bank to improve colleague and customer outcomes.

 

This session will last approximately 50 minutes plus opportunities for Q&A.
