Companies as tribes: Cultivating belonging in a world of hybrid working

6 December 2022 at 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free – £18.00

Speaker: Dr Alexandra Dobra-Kiel, Behave part of the Total Media Group

Alexandra is the Head of Behavioural Research & Insight at Behave, where she helps companies achieve sustainable growth. Previously, she was the Banking & Capital Markets Insight Lead for Deloitte UK, where she helped companies better prepare for game-changing trends by identifying new corporate and business strategies.

As an expert in behavioural science and corporate strategy, she is a speaker at conferences (e.g., Tech & Trends, Women in Financial Services Festival), an author in practitioner journals (e.g., CEO Today, The European Business Review), an invited expert (e.g., Quilter Annual Conference, UK Finance) and a commentator in the media (e.g., Financial News, Euromoney).

She holds a PhD from Warwick and a Master’s from Cambridge.

The hypothesis that people are motivated by a strong need to belong, that is, to form and maintain enduring interpersonal bonds is far from new. John Donne (1975) has been widely quoted for the line “no person is an island”. This hypothesis has been validated by large bodies of empirical findings (Baumeister and Leary, 1995). Yet despite this validation, in the context of the workplace, the consequences of the need to belong (e.g., cognitive processes, emotional patterns, behavioural responses, and well-being) are often underappreciated.
