Cyber Psychology : The challenges of remote working and maintaining digital wellbeing

September 8 at 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm

Free – £18.00

Azeem Butt, UX Researcher, SPARCK (the leading technology and engineering consultancy for business)

Most of us with families have witnessed uncontrolled use of the internet and apparent addiction to technology. We have battled to “regulate” its use, while accepting that it is increasingly a feature of a society as we endeavour to incorporate technology to improve efficiency and productivity.  What few of us, however, foresaw was the onset of the pandemic and rapid changes in working practices.  This situation has forced most of us to work from home and adopt these technologies in order to conduct our work. Accompanying this are new forms of stress and work moral which we must navigate.

Changing practices cause changes in work-based relationships. While many can adapt easily, some of us have great difficulty.  Adapting to the changes can manifest in the form of extreme behaviour, such as retiring or aggressive online and offline behaviour.  This can permanently affect working relationships resulting, at best, in loss of creativity or, at worst, in breakdown and high staff turnover.

The ABP is delighted to welcome Azeem Butt who has spent most of his working life researching the causes of extreme behaviour online and what triggers problematic online activity. His presentation will cover the extent of the problem exploring the impact of digital fatigue on wellbeing and performance.  He will highlight the early warning signs and, most importantly, what can be done to prevent damage to organisations and working relationships.

This session will last approximately 50 minutes plus opportunities for Q&A.

Looking forward to welcoming you,
