Can assessment solve the injustices of society?
1. Approaches traditionally used to evaluate, explain and address adverse impact in assessment may be insufficient in fully understanding the challenges faced in overcoming injustice.
2. There are strong links between ethnicity, socio-economic factors and educational attainment that need to be considered holistically.
3. Students from underrepresented groups are less likely to attend, or do well at, university, and are underrepresented at higher ranked universities compared with other universities.
4. Assessment for selection alone cannot solve societal injustices but there are actions that should be taken as well-designed assessment can be an integral part in increasing access to opportunity.
