Richard Chataway

Board Member – Communications

Richard is one of the most experienced practitioners in applied behavioural science in the UK having led communications strategy for both local and central government in Australia and the UK, and advised clients including IKEA, Pfizer, ITV, BT, Kimberly Clark, American Express, InterContinental Hotels Group, and Starbucks. He won a Global Festival of Media Campaign of the Year award, and led the development of the world’s most successful stop smoking mobile app (My QuitBuddy). Previously the first dedicated Head of Ogilvy Change, he founded the behavioural consultancy Communication Science Group with clients including Google, GambleAware and Atos.

He has conducted training for call centre personnel, marketing directors, press officers, media planners, creatives and everything in between. Richard is also a frequent conference speaker and writer on the subject of best practice behaviour change in Europe and Australia.

Having spoken at the ABP conference and ABP events, Richard joined the board to provide an industry viewpoint on how psychology is being increasingly used in communications, government and customer engagement, and in particular to help advance the understanding of applied behavioural economics/science.
