Uncertainty Rules? Making Uncertainty Work for You
November 16 at 6:00 pm - 7:00 pmFree – £18.00
Richard Plenty/Terri Morrissey, Directors, This Is….
To quote former US Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld: As we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don’t know we don’t know.
This oft quoted observation about uncertainty is more frequently derided than analysed. But it raises an important point especially for Business Psychologists and those involved in the improvement of organisational effectiveness: in a complex world, no one can predict the future with any certainty nor guarantee any improvements.
As our societies have become more complex, the level of uncertainty has increased and people find they have to deal with fast changing, rapidly evolving situations.
Richard Plenty and Terri Morrissey from This Is…. will guide us through the important issues highlighted in their book and present a conceptual framework and practical strategies for dealing with uncertainty. They will identify and distil out the most important elements to be addressed in relation to common complex problems and show how these can be used to point to innovative solutions.
The presentation will highlight approaches which members will be able to apply in the course of their own work.
This session will last 60 minutes including opportunities for Q&A.
Looking forward to welcoming you,
